Investment research incumbent
StockPlus vs Morningstar
The long-established research house behind the star ratings — fund, ETF and equity analysis, sold to individual investors as Morningstar Investor.
Choose StockPlus if
Price and purpose. Morningstar Investor is $34.99/mo or $249.99/yr against $2.99/mo for StockPlus Pro, and it is built for evaluating what to own rather than watching what you already do. Congressional and insider filings, a daily briefing and push alerts are not part of it.
Choose Morningstar if
Independent research, at a depth and a vintage nobody here matches. Morningstar has been rating funds since 1984, employs analysts who publish written theses, and its fund and ETF coverage is the reference standard the rest of the industry quotes. If you hold funds, this is the serious answer and StockPlus is not a substitute for a word of it.

The verdict
Morningstar answers "is this a good investment" and StockPlus answers "what just happened to mine". For funds in particular there is no honest argument for us over them — their analysts have been doing this since 1984. The case for StockPlus is that $249.99 a year buys research you may read quarterly, while $2.99 a month buys something that reaches you daily.

Questions people ask
How much does Morningstar Investor cost?
Apple's listing shows $34.99 per month or $249.99 per year after a 7-day free trial, as of August 2026. A large amount of Morningstar's written content remains free on the web. StockPlus Pro is $2.99/mo.
Does Morningstar track congressional trades?
No — congressional and insider disclosures are not part of the Morningstar Investor product as of August 2026. StockPlus carries both feeds in its free tier.
Is the Morningstar Rating the same kind of thing as the Pulse Score?
No, and Morningstar's is the more serious instrument. The star rating is a long-running, analyst-backed assessment aimed largely at funds. The Pulse Score is a 0–100 read on a ticker inside a monitoring app. We would not put them in the same sentence except to say they are not comparable.
